Canada's Natural Gas Boom Takes Shape as Companies Invest Heavily
Natural gas and liquid fuels are on the move in Western Canada as companies like Pembina Pipeline, TC Energy, Enbridge, Tourmaline Oil, AltaGas, Keyera, and Fortis make significant investments in their operations.
Pembina Pipeline is a prime example of this trend. In the second quarter, it completed, sanctioned, and connected various projects across its natural-gas and liquids business. These include a new fractionator at its Redwater complex near Edmonton, which added 55,000 barrels per day of propane-plus capacity.
The company also reached a positive final investment decision on the C$4.6-billion Greenlight Electricity Centre, a gas-fired power project built around a Meta data centre. Additionally, it sanctioned a C$570-million extraction plant backed by a long-term ethane agreement with Dow.
