Canada's Oil Exports Are a Captive Market Thanks to Trudeau's Failed Climate Policies
Canada's inability to reduce its reliance on the US oil market stems from the Trudeau government's failed climate change policies, which have left the country vulnerable to US tariffs. According to Goldstein, the previous Liberal government's inaction has resulted in over 90% of Canada's oil exports being sold at a discount to the Americans.
The lack of practical alternatives for selling Canadian oil to countries other than the US is largely due to the Trudeau government's decision to kill several pipeline projects, including the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline and the TransCanada Corp. Energy East pipeline.
Goldstein argues that if the Trudeau government had spent a decade building up Canada's oil pipeline and infrastructure instead of impeding them through regulations, the country would have more options for selling its oil.
