Canada's Untapped Oil Potential
Canada is in a unique position to supply oil and gas to meet global demand, but years of net-zero policies have left it dependent on unstable regions. As a result, prices for oil and gasoline remain high due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The market has been pricing in optimistic projections of the situation resolving itself, leading traders to bet on lower prices through short selling. However, this has masked the actual physical market, where global stocks have been drawn down and the gap between traded price and real scarcity is widening.
According to Dan McTeague, a former Liberal MP for Pickering-Scarborough East, 'you can't load a tanker with a futures contract.' The reality is that traders are papering over an actual energy crisis, which will ultimately mean higher prices for longer and real recession risk attached.
