Canada’s West Coast Pipeline Proposal Advances with Emissions Reduction Link
A proposed West Coast oil pipeline in Canada has taken a significant step forward as Alberta submits its proposal to the federal government. The pipeline, which would increase Canada's crude export capacity by nearly 20%, is part of a larger initiative to expand the country's energy infrastructure and reduce emissions from oil sands production.
The pipeline proposal includes a private sector participant, Pembina Pipeline Corporation, which will hold a 10% stake in the project through construction. The commercial structure remains partly defined, but broader private sector investment is expected over time.
The pipeline's route has also been clarified, with the proposal highlighting a new heavy oil pipeline running from Alberta to British Columbia. The project would follow existing infrastructure where possible and avoid revisiting the federal northern tanker moratorium.
