Canadian Company Converts Ferries into Worker Housing for LNG Project
The Bridgemans Services Group has converted two European ferries into specialized Canadian floatels for worker housing at the Woodfibre LNG export facility.
The MV Isabelle X and MV Saga X, moored on the southwest coast of Howe Sound, house about 1,300 workers building the liquefied natural gas project.
Bridgemans president and founder Brian Grange explained that creating a floatel involves a 'much deeper overhaul than people often realize.'
The company strips the vessels down to their core and rebuilds them from scratch, updating cabin interiors, transforming common areas into premium workforce amenities, and upgrading marine engineering, environmental technologies, and specialized infrastructure.
Each retrofit costs tens of millions of dollars per vessel and takes around three to six months to complete.
