Canadian Exports Defy Trade Issues to End Crop Year Strong

Canadian farmers have overcome trade issues to achieve strong export numbers at the end of the crop year. Despite initial concerns, canola exports will be fewer than 750,000 tonnes below last-year levels.

The Canada Grain Commission reported that overall exports of Canadian grains, oilseeds, and pulses hit 49.2 million tonnes as of July 19, 2026, a marginal decrease from the 42.7 million tonnes shipped by this time last year.

Barley exports have been a bright spot, with shipments 1.4 million tonnes ahead of last year at 3.26 million tonnes, marking the strongest barley export year since 2020-21.
