Canadian Oil Producers Eye Expansion After Years of Restraint

Canadian oil producers are seeing a surge in profits due to spiking prices and an energy shock triggered by war in Iran. After reporting billions of dollars in profits, some companies expect to return excess cash to the business by investing in new production.

The shift is a sharp change from more than a decade of restraint in the industry, which has generally been focused on cutting costs and returning cash to shareholders.

Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. was one of the first companies to report its earnings, with profits increasing by 140% to $205.7 million in the second quarter.
