Canadian Stocks Slide Despite Energy Sector Strength
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, was down on September 14, 2026, despite a strong performance by energy stocks. The index fell by 50.96 points to close at 35,646.53. Oil prices were higher, with the October crude oil contract up US$2.65 at US$102.7.
The strength in energy stocks was unable to offset the decline in other sectors, leading to a drop in the overall index. The Canadian dollar also fell against the US dollar, trading for 71.82 cents compared to 72.12 cents on Friday.
