Canola Futures Miss Contract Highs Despite Strong Gains
Canola futures surged higher on Thursday, narrowly missing contract highs. The gains can be attributed to spillover from crude oil and the Chicago soy complex, as well as weather concerns in parts of the Prairies.
The firm tone was also influenced by positioning ahead of Friday's monthly USDA supply/demand estimates. Phil Franz-Warkentin of the Western Producer Markets Desk notes that this is a key factor driving prices.
