Canola Futures Rebound on ICE Amid Crude Oil Price Decline

ICE Canola futures saw a rebound on Thursday morning after experiencing heavy losses. Despite mixed sentiment in comparable oils, canola prices were slightly higher. The market was influenced by various factors, including the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, which led to lower crude oil prices. However, some vessels took alternate shipping routes, further contributing to the decline in crude oil prices.

Crude oil prices fell approximately US$1 per barrel on Thursday. Other oils also experienced price fluctuations, with Chicago soyoil remaining steady while European rapeseed and Malaysian palm oil saw decreases and an increase, respectively. The recent heat wave that affected Saskatchewan and Manitoba has broken, with temperatures returning to normal in both provinces.

Parts of southern Alberta are still under a heat warning, but northern Saskatchewan is expected to see rain and thunderstorms later in the day. The Canadian dollar was up two-tenths of a U.S. cent compared to Wednesday's close. Trading activity on ICE saw nearly 19,700 contracts being traded.

ICE Canola prices in Canadian dollars per metric ton as of 8:46 CDT were Nov at $774.00, up 2.40; Jan at $782.80, up 1.90; Mar at $790.30, up 2.40; and May at $793.90, up 1.20.
