Canola Futures Slide as Chicago Soyoil Losses Mount
Canola futures continued their downward trend on Friday, July 31, as losses in Chicago soyoil and a lack of significant weather concerns led speculators to liquidate long positions. This was the last trading day of the 2025-26 marketing year.
The decline in canola futures was part of a broader market downturn, with soybean, corn, and wheat futures also experiencing losses in the US. Wheat futures saw the largest declines among these commodities.
Phil Franz-Warkentin of the Western Producer Markets Desk provided insight into this market update, noting that speculators were selling off long positions due to the lack of significant weather concerns and the downward trend in Chicago soyoil.
