Canola, Soy Complex Weighed Down by Profit-Taking and Bearish Estimates
Canola futures declined on Friday as market players took advantage of speculative profit-taking opportunities and losses in the Chicago soy complex. The bearish sentiment was also fueled by updated USDA supply/demand estimates, which had a negative impact on soybean, corn, and wheat prices. The largest losses were seen in soybeans, with the markets reacting poorly to the revised estimates. Additionally, losses in crude oil contributed to the overall softer tone.
Phil Franz-Warkentin of the Western Producer Markets Desk provided the closing grain and oilseed market update on September 11. As he noted, the losses in canola were due to a combination of factors, including profit-taking and spillover from the soy complex.
