Caramuru Invests R$100m in Sunflower Supply Chain Expansion
Caramuru Alimentos is expanding its sunflower supply chain in Goiás, Brazil. The company plans to invest R$100 million in a new warehouse with capacity for 60,000 tonnes of sunflowers, as well as new equipment for its plant in Itumbiara.
This will increase the processing capacity for sunflower oil and derivatives from 100,000 tonnes to 125,000 tonnes per year. Caramuru is already a driving force behind sunflower cultivation in Goiás, purchasing around 50,000 tonnes of sunflowers this year from 55,700 hectares.
The company expects to produce around 30,000 tonnes of sunflower oil in 2026 and capture a share closer to 50% of Brazil's retail sunflower oil market with the Sinhá brand. High-technology sunflower varieties are becoming increasingly available, costing half as much as medium-technology corn varieties.
Caramuru's CEO, Marcus Thieme, stated that the company generates demand and structures the supply chain. The investment is awaiting approval for state financing lines and the company's board of directors.
