Caribbean Nations Face Economic Challenges Amid Global Tensions
Cuba's UN ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán has criticized the US for imposing sanctions while calling for Cuba to expand private investment. He questioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio over why Washington is restricting economic reforms, arguing that the sanctions hinder the country's opening.
The US has imposed further sanctions on Cuban mining, metal, and construction companies, with Rubio warning of additional measures. The sanctions have worsened Cuba's economic crisis, causing power outages, transport disruptions, and shortages of food and medicine.
Guyana's government welcomed the arrival of its fifth and largest FPSO vessel, which is expected to push national oil production beyond one million barrels per day. The $12.7 billion project targets over 800 million barrels of recoverable oil, with Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat describing it as a major milestone in Guyana's oil and gas development.
