Cattle and Hog Markets Show Mixed Movement After Holiday Weekend
The cattle and hog markets showed mixed movement after a long holiday weekend, with prices affected by market uncertainties and supply challenges. Live cattle futures rose, with October contracts closing $4.07 higher at $217.02 and December contracts up $4.50 at $219.22.
Feeder cattle prices also increased, supported by a drop in corn prices. Hog futures saw gains as well, with October lean hogs closing $1.95 higher at $84.25 and December contracts up $2.57 at $75.05.
Cash cattle trade was quiet early in the week, with bids and asking prices yet to emerge due to the extended weekend. Kansas reports showed steers and heifers selling steady to $8 lower amid moderate demand.
A market analyst noted that the weakness of cash cattle may be subsiding, but warned that a break below support could trigger significant selling in cattle futures.
