The market is set for a cautious opening on August 31, 2026, as global indices show mixed signals. The GIFT Nifty has declined by 0.19% to trade at 24228, while crude oil prices have surged by 2.34% to $85.35. This boost in energy sector sentiment may counterbalance the broader market's cautious tone.

Asian markets have also shown weakness, with Japan's Nikkei 225 falling 1.50% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dropping 0.91%. However, the US markets closed lower overnight, with technology stocks leading the decline. The NASDAQ Composite fell by 0.54%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped marginally by 0.02%

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers of ₹5,039.80 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought ₹5,183.93 crore. This divergence in strategy suggests domestic players are absorbing foreign selling pressure.
