CB&I Achieves Landmark Milestone with All-Steel LNG Tanks in the Philippines
CB&I and AG&P Industrial have achieved a significant milestone in the Philippines by completing two large-scale onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks. The 60,000m³ full containment LNG tanks at the LNGPH Ilijan LNG Facility showcase CB&I's innovative all-steel full containment LNG tank technology.
The project marks the first large-scale onshore LNG storage facility in the Philippines and demonstrates the benefits of CB&I's design, which uses 9% nickel steel for both the inner and outer tanks. This ensures compliance with LNG industry technical and safety standards.
The successful commissioning of Tank 1 marked the world's first in-service full containment all-steel LNG tank, while Tank 2 is now also fully operational following performance testing. The facility stands as a proven demonstration of CB&I's technology, which delivers enhanced economics, faster construction schedules, and safety benefits.
CB&I completed construction with zero lost-time incidents over more than one million work hours, underscoring the project's strong safety performance. Jack Aughenbaugh, Vice President, Operations, International at CB&I, stated, 'This project demonstrates that all-steel full containment LNG storage is not only technically feasible but commercially advantageous.'
