CBOT Crops Rise on Declining Ratings
Soybean and corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) saw gains despite losses in crude oil and soyoil on Tuesday. The boost in these crops was due to declining condition ratings.
The U.S. soybean crop's good-to-excellent rating fell from 66% to 63% this week, contrary to expectations of a more modest decline. Meanwhile, corn's good-to-excellent rating also dropped four points to 63%. This trend contributed to the firming tone in speculative positions.
However, the weakness in crude oil due to de-escalating tensions in the Middle East tempered the gains in soybean and corn futures. Wheat futures remained relatively unchanged, with small gains in Chicago soft wheat and losses in spring wheat and hard red winter wheat.
