Cedar LNG Project Hits Key Milestones as It Advances Toward 2028 Startup

Cedar LNG, a $4 billion project in British Columbia, Canada, is advancing toward its planned startup in late 2028. The project, a partnership between Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corp., aims to become Canada's first floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) export operation.

The latest milestone was the completion of the final weld on an eight-kilometre pipeline linking the facility to the Coastal GasLink system. The line is now undergoing pressure testing and verification before being filled with nitrogen until commissioning.

At the marine terminal, heavy civil crews are advancing site preparation, grading, drainage, and access-road construction, which remains on schedule for an October handover. Offshore, Samsung Heavy Industries has launched the hull of the floating LNG vessel, now more than 50% complete and being outfitted with Black & Veatch.

The project emphasizes Indigenous participation, with apprenticeship and workforce development initiatives preparing Haisla Nation members for long-term operational roles. Peak construction is expected to reach 500 workers before startup.
