Cenovus Energy Posts Tripled Earnings, Lifts Full-Year Production Target
Cenovus Energy Inc., a Calgary-based oil producer, reported significant growth in its second-quarter earnings and production. The company's net earnings more than tripled to $2.87 billion, or $1.53 per diluted share, from $851 million, or 45 cents per share, in the same period last year.
The increase was driven by higher oil prices and increased production, with output climbing 27% to 970,400 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Cenovus lifted its full-year upstream guidance by the equivalent of 25,000 barrels per day, targeting a range of 970,000 to 1.01 million.
Cenovus CEO Jon McKenzie attributed the company's success to its people and assets, stating that July output will pass one million barrels a day for the first time. The milestone places Cenovus among fewer than 20 producers worldwide pumping more than a million barrels of oil and gas a day.
