Cenovus Set to Surpass Million-Barrel-Per-Day Production Milestone

Cenovus Energy Inc., one of Canada's largest oil producers, is on track to surpass a major milestone in production. The Calgary-based company expects its total upstream production to range from 970,000 to 1.01 million barrels per day, an increase of 25,000 barrels per day from the midpoint of its earlier forecast.

This means that for the first time, Cenovus will produce over a million barrels of oil per day in July, according to chief executive Jon McKenzie. The company's production bump is largely due to its Christina Lake project, which has been averaging 400,000 barrels a day for the month of July.

Cenovus also reported a significant increase in profit, with earnings rising from $851 million to $2.87 billion in the second quarter of this year. This represents a threefold profit surge and brings the company's revenue to $17.4 billion, up from $12.3 billion last year.

The acquisition of MEG Energy last year has significantly contributed to Cenovus's growth, with McKenzie stating that the company has 'delivered on all the upfront commercial and corporate synergies' and remains on track to increase production to 150,000 barrels a day by 2028.
