A US Central Command (CENTCOM) operation has targeted and destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers near Kharg Island, following reports that the IRGC fired ballistic missiles at a Navy warship twice this week.

The incident comes as part of an escalating military doctrine between Iran and the US, with Tehran targeting American warships. This latest action by CENTCOM forces marks a significant escalation in the conflict.

Nikolay Kozhanov, a former Russian embassy attaché in Tehran, has stated that Russia is providing advanced missile technology to Iran, which includes hardware for electronic jamming, in an attempt to fuel the war and distract from Ukraine. Brent crude oil prices have breached $100 a barrel as a result of the increased tensions.
