CENTCOM Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for IRGC Attack
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had struck three Iranian oil tankers on September 5, in response to an IRGC missile attack targeting two American Navy warships. The IRGC launched ballistic missiles toward the ships, but they successfully evaded the attacks.
US Admiral and CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper stated, 'Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost, taking out three of yours.'
The targeted Navy warships were patrolling regional waters when they came under attack. The US military claimed that no American personnel were harmed in the attack.
