CENTCOM Takes Out Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Ballistic Missile Strikes on US Warships
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that three Iranian oil tankers were disabled after Iran launched ballistic missiles towards two US Navy vessels. The strikes were carried out on September 5, and no US personnel were injured in the incident.
CENTCOM said the tankers were part of a multibillion-dollar 'shadow network' that generates revenue for the IRGC and its regional proxies. Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, warned that if Iran shoots at US ships, they will impose an even higher economic cost.
The command said it had struck and disabled the M/T Downy off the coast of Kharg Island and the M/T Stark 1 near Jask. The unladen crude oil carrier M/T Kylo was completely destroyed in the Gulf of Oman after its crew was directed to abandon ship.
