Gold prices have been volatile in recent weeks, closing at $4,055.70 per troy ounce on Friday, virtually flat but down 6.40% since the start of 2026.
The metal briefly dipped below the psychologically significant $4,000 mark last week and remains roughly 28% lower than its 52-week high set in January.
As the Federal Reserve convenes on July 28-29 for its most consequential policy meeting in months, investors are watching closely to see if rates will be held steady or tightened.
