CFTC Report Reveals Shifts in Speculative Funds' Positions
The latest CFTC position report released on September 5 revealed significant changes in speculative funds' positions across various asset classes.
Precious metals saw a sharp decline in long positions, with gold net longs falling by 10,504 contracts to 140,811. Silver and copper also experienced reductions in their net longs, down by 1,065 contracts and 3,445 contracts respectively.
On the other hand, crude oil speculators increased their net longs by 15,816 contracts, rising to 118,894. Natural gas shorts expanded simultaneously, with a rise of 11,098 contracts across four major markets, up to 50,697.
The data suggests that speculative funds are reallocating capital between risk and safe-haven assets, with a focus on rates and supply-demand signals.
