Chandigarh Accelerates Cleaner Energy Adoption with PNG Supply Expansion
A high-level meeting was held in Chandigarh to discuss expanding the city's gas network and adopting cleaner energy sources. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) delegation, led by Chairperson Anil Kumar Jain, met with Punjab Governor and Union Territory Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday.
The meeting focused on reviewing the expansion of the City Gas Distribution network and addressing operational bottlenecks to accelerate the adoption of natural gas. Following the meeting, the Governor formally inaugurated Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supply at Raj Bhavan, marking a significant milestone in Chandigarh's transition towards cleaner energy.
The PNGRB has proposed a new tariff policy for long-distance pipelines, which would charge lower rates to city gas entities selling CNG and piped cooking gas. This move aims to resolve distance-related dislocations in natural gas pricing, implemented from April 1, 2023.
