Cheniere Corpus Christi Expansion Completes, Boosts US LNG Export Capacity

Cheniere Energy has completed its Corpus Christi Stage 3 LNG expansion project in Texas, increasing its liquefied natural gas production capacity by over 20% to 56 million tons per annum. The project strengthens Cheniere's position as the largest U.S. LNG exporter at a time when demand from overseas markets is growing.

The Corpus Christi LNG terminal has been operating since 2018, and this expansion adds two new trains to its existing facilities. Cheniere had issued Bechtel Energy, the contractor on the project, full notice to proceed in June 2022, with the first LNG production from the first train achieved in December 2024.

The Corpus Christi Stage 3 Project is not the only expansion project currently underway at Cheniere. The company is also constructing an adjacent project for two additional trains, both of which received a final investment decision in 2025. Meanwhile, Cheniere's Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana has exported its 5,000th LNG cargo this month to Asia.
