Chennai Gold Price Surges Rs 800 Per Sovereign Amid Market Volatility
The price of gold in Chennai increased by Rs 800 per sovereign on August 22, 2026. The current price is at Rs 1,19,600 per sovereign and Rs 14,950 per gram after a rise of Rs 100 per gram.
This comes after the price of 22-carat gold stood at Rs 1,18,800 per sovereign and Rs 14,850 per gram on August 21 evening. The morning rate for the same day was Rs 1,17,680 per sovereign and Rs 14,710 per gram.
Silver prices remained unchanged at Rs 270 per gram (Rs 2,70,000 per kg) on August 22.
The current gold price is significantly higher compared to last year. It has increased from Rs 73,720 per sovereign (Rs 9,215 per gram) on August 22, 2025, to Rs 1,19,600 per sovereign (Rs 14,950 per gram) on August 22, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 45,880 per sovereign or about 62.23 percent.
