Chennai Gold Prices Plummet by ₹225 Per Gram on September 2

The Madras Jewellers & Diamond Traders Association (MJDTA) released its latest morning update on September 2, 2026, revealing a decline in Chennai's gold prices. Both 22-carat and 18-carat gold prices fell by ₹225 per gram.

According to the update, the current price of 22K gold is ₹13,950 per gram, down from ₹14,175 per gram in the previous update. Based on today's rate, 8 grams (1 sovereign) of 22K gold costs ₹1,11,600, excluding making charges, GST, and other jewellery-related costs.

The 18K gold price also declined to ₹11,720 per gram, compared to the previous rate of ₹11,945 per gram. The silver rate, however, remained unchanged at ₹250 per gram.
