Chennai Gold Prices Plummet by Rs 680 Per Sovereign
On August 19, 2026, the price of gold in Chennai decreased by Rs 680 per sovereign to Rs 1,13,640. This represents a drop of Rs 85 per gram from the previous day's rate of Rs 14,290.
The yellow metal has been steadily increasing in value over the past year, with prices now standing at about 53.81% higher than they were on August 19, 2025. On that date, gold was priced at Rs 73,880 per sovereign and Rs 9,235 per gram.
Silver prices also decreased by Rs 5 to sell for Rs 250 per gram (Rs 2,50,000 per kg) on August 19. Despite this drop, silver remains significantly lower in value compared to gold.
