Chennai Gold Prices Spike as 22K Surges ₹200 on August 20
Chennai's gold prices skyrocketed on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as per the latest morning rates from the Madras Jewellers & Diamond Traders Association (MJDTA). The 22-carat gold rate surged ₹200 per gram, jumping from ₹14,400 to ₹14,600 per gram. This significant increase was not limited to 22-carat gold, as the 18-carat gold rate also gained ₹200, moving from ₹12,180 to ₹12,380 per gram.
Silver prices followed suit, with a rise of ₹10 per gram, taking it from ₹250 to ₹260 per gram. According to MJDTA's rates, these price changes are influenced by various factors including international gold prices, US dollar movements, interest rate expectations, inflation, geopolitical developments, and domestic jewellery demand.
