Chevron Doubles Down on Venezuelan Oil Expansion
Chevron has announced plans to more than double its oil production in Venezuela over the next five years, investing $7 billion in the country. The expansion is seen as a major win for the Trump Administration, with Chevron CEO Mike Wirth stating that the investment will support low-cost oil growth and energy supply.
Chevron's current operations in Venezuela date back to 1923, making it the only US oil company with a significant presence in the country. The company has been given additional land in the Orinoco Belt, where it already has operations, allowing for further expansion.
The Trump Administration has been pushing for US oil companies to re-enter Venezuela, with President Donald Trump announcing a deal to rebuild the country's oil reserves and give the Pentagon a stake in the profits. Chevron's expansion is seen as a key part of this effort.
