Chevron Doubles Down on Venezuelan Oil Production
Chevron has announced a deal to increase oil production in Venezuela, doubling current output to approximately 600,000 barrels per day. This expansion comes after years of efforts by the US government to encourage oil companies to operate in the country.
The Chevron CEO, Mike Wirth, stated that the company's history in Venezuela spans over a century and that they have confidence in the country's deep resource potential. He emphasized that improved terms and additional acreage will deliver attractive low-cost oil growth and support energy supply.
The deal follows a meeting between Chevron Vice Chairman Mark Nelson and the White House earlier this year, during which he hinted at the expansion of production in Venezuela. This announcement comes as gas prices are projected to remain elevated through the fall season due to ongoing wars in Europe and the Middle East.
