Chilean Storm Intensifies Global Copper Supply Pressure
A severe storm has caused widespread disruptions to copper mining operations in northern Chile, exacerbating supply pressure in the global copper market.
The storm has led to successive floods and blizzards that have forced numerous mines to suspend production, including those operated by major companies such as BHP, Anglo American, Barrick Gold, Antofagasta Minerals, and Lundin Mining.
Industry estimates suggest it will take several weeks for full production capacity to resume, adding to existing supply constraints in the copper market.
The impact of the storm has not been limited to Chile, with neighboring Argentina also experiencing disruptions due to snowfall.
