Chinese Premier Li Qiang has pledged to deepen cooperation with Qatar in key areas such as energy, investment, and artificial intelligence. The promise was made during a meeting between Li and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Beijing.

The visit by Sheikh Mohammed is part of a two-day official trip aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between the two countries.

China and Qatar are seeking to navigate an increasingly volatile regional security environment, particularly with regards to the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is a critical chokepoint for China's energy imports and Qatar's liquefied natural gas exports, which account for nearly one-third of China's demand for LNG.

Tehran has confirmed that a Qatari delegation's visit on Sunday was part of regional de-escalation efforts. Iran also stated that talks with Oman on a temporary safe passage through the strait are in their final stage, with an agreement expected to be registered with the International Maritime Organisation in the coming days.

Li emphasized China's commitment to strengthening communication and coordination with Qatar, adding that both countries will support each other and deepen cooperation in key areas. He noted that this partnership is crucial for ensuring international navigation through critical shipping lanes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
