China Corn Imports Soar by 527.3% in July
China's corn imports surged in July, according to data from the General Administration of Customs. The country imported 350,000 tonnes of corn and corn flour last month, a year-on-year increase of 527.3%. This marks a significant rise in supply, effectively supplementing domestic availability and putting downward pressure on both spot and futures prices for corn.
The sharp increase in corn imports is also expected to ease domestic supply constraints for corn starch production, weakening cost-side support for the commodity and exerting some downward pressure on its price. This development represents a mildly bearish factor for corn prices.
