China Crude Imports Rebound Amid Russian Oil Binge

China's crude oil imports rebounded to 37.9 million tonnes in August, marking a 6.2% month-on-month increase and signaling a gradual rebuilding of purchasing momentum.

The surge is attributed to refiners expanding supply sources beyond the Persian Gulf, with Russian crude particularly sought after due to concerns over the uncertainty-laden Strait of Hormuz shipping route.

Despite persistently high oil prices, import demand has recovered, but August volumes remain 23.4% lower than the same period last year.

The increased crude supply has enabled China to expand refined product exports, with gasoline, diesel, and other refined product exports reaching 6.01 million tonnes in August, a sharp 29% increase from July.
