China Doubles Down on Clean Energy Amid Iran Conflict's Oil Demand Blow
China is significantly increasing its investments in green energy initiatives amid the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has led to a downturn in global oil demand. The Financial Times reports that the Iran conflict has sharply reduced global oil supply, contributing to an expected decline in world oil demand in 2026, marking the first decrease since the pandemic.
China has recently allocated over $43 billion toward low-carbon projects, focusing on expanding its renewable energy infrastructure and grid capabilities. This move reflects a broader global trend of reducing fossil fuel dependence, driven by rising oil prices and supply disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) reports that the probability of crude oil reaching a new all-time high has dropped from 9% to 6.8% by September 30, and from 18% to 14.5% by December 31, within 24 hours. China's increased funding in clean energy aligns with global shifts, while the Iran conflict continues to impact oil supply and demand expectations.
