China Livestock Market Sees Mixed Results in August
The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs released its weekly livestock market report for the second week of August, covering prices from August 13. According to Sunsirs, a leading provider of commodity price data, piglet prices fell month-on-month by 2% nationwide, with a year-over-year decline of 35.2%. The national average price of live pigs rose by 0.9% from the previous week but decreased by 21.7% compared to last year.
Pork prices also experienced mixed results, with increases in 19 provinces and decreases in 10. The national average price of pork rose by 0.3% from the previous week but declined by 16.5% year-over-year. Chicken and egg prices saw slight increases, with the national average price of chicken rising by 0.4% and eggs increasing by 0.8%.
In terms of cattle and sheep products, beef prices rose by 0.3% from the previous week but decreased by 5.9% year-over-year. Mutton prices remained unchanged from the previous week but increased by 5.9% compared to last year. Feed prices also saw some fluctuations, with corn prices declining by 0.4% and soybean meal prices remaining steady.
