China Targets 440 Million Tons of Oil Equivalent by 2030 Amid Energy Security Push
China has outlined ambitious plans to boost its domestic oil and gas supply to 440 million metric tons of oil equivalent by 2030, a move aimed at bolstering national energy security and accelerating the sector's green transformation.
The targets were outlined in the newly released 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) for petroleum and natural gas development, jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration.
To strengthen domestic distribution networks, China will construct an additional 20,000 kilometers of long-distance oil and gas pipelines by 2030, expanding the nation's total network to 220,000 km. This infrastructure push is expected to enhance domestic supply chain resilience.
The country will also further diversify and secure its import channels, with plans to expand liquefied natural gas receiving terminal unloading capacity to 200 million tons per annum and cross-border onshore pipeline import capacity reaching 114 billion cubic meters annually.
