China's Electric Vehicles Displace Record Amount of Oil Demand
China's electric vehicle fleet has led to a significant reduction in crude oil imports. During the first half of this year, Chinese EVs avoided consuming approximately 36 million tons of oil. This number is even higher than last year, with about 19 million tons displaced during the second quarter alone.
The growth of electric trucks has been particularly influential in reducing diesel consumption. These vehicles are being used intensively on predictable routes, with charging infrastructure adapted to their work cycles.
Oil substitution does not solely depend on the number of electric vehicles. An electric truck can displace much more diesel consumption than a private car, making heavy-duty transport a key factor in oil demand.
