China's LNG Imports Plunge Amid Soaring Prices and Conflict-Driven Costs

China's imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are set to drop in August, with deliveries estimated at around 5.2 million tons, a stark contrast from last year's numbers.

This decline is attributed to higher prices triggered by the war in the Middle East, which has weighed on consumption. Ship-tracking data from Kpler reveals that China's LNG imports are 18% lower than the same month last year.

The trend marks a departure from previous months, where China saw significant increases in LNG imports as it replenished inventories to meet peak summer demand.
