China's Shipbuilders Speed Up to High-End Vessels with Smart, Eco-Friendly Designs
Hengli Heavy Industry, based in Dalian, Liaoning province, has expanded into gas carrier manufacturing after signing contracts to build six very large ammonia carriers for international shipowners.
The company's breakthrough came with its first high-power liquefied natural gas, or LNG, dual-fuel marine engine delivery earlier this year, representing a significant step up in China's high-end marine engine manufacturing.
Zhang Haoxu, director of external relations at Hengli Heavy Industry, attributed the company's success to its shift towards independent manufacturing of high-end marine engines, rather than relying on imports.
