Chinese LNG Carrier Faces Insurance Complications After Strait of Hormuz Incident
The Chinese-owned LNG carrier GasLog Shanghai may face complications in its insurance claim after being struck in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global energy supplies. The $120 million vessel was damaged in the incident on July 31, but all crew members were safe.
According to reports, the ship's Automatic Identification System (AIS) was switched off when it entered the Strait, which could lead to rejection of the insurance claim by war-risk insurers.
The GasLog Shanghai is one of two LNG carriers owned by CDB Financial Leasing, a unit of Chinese company CDB. The vessel was built in 2013 and can carry 155,000 cubic meters of LNG.
