CME Group Launches US Zinc Futures Contract Amid Global Supply Chain Shifts

The CME Group has announced that its U.S. zinc futures contract is now trading on the CME Globex platform, marking the first trades in this new instrument. Glencore and Trafigura were among the first companies to execute trades on August 20, with contracts for September delivery.

The introduction of this contract addresses a gap in the market by providing participants with a precise tool to manage their exposure to the all-in U.S. zinc price. According to Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals at CME Group, 'As geopolitical fragmentation reshapes global supply chains, regional price signals matter more than ever.'

The company's announcement comes as its other metal contracts continue to gain traction. The U.S. Hot-Rolled Coil steel futures contracts are trading 1,483 contracts per day year-to-date, while European contracts are trading 360 contracts daily.
