CME Group Launches US Zinc Futures Contract Amid Growing Demand
The CME Group has launched its US Zinc futures contract, providing a new physically delivered hedging and trading instrument for the critical industrial metal used across global infrastructure, manufacturing, and automotive supply chains.
Jin Henning, Managing Director and Head of Metals at CME Group, stated that the successful launch reflects strong demand from market participants for a cash-settled, transparent tool to manage price risk in the domestic zinc market. This new offering provides enhanced price discovery and liquidity for commercial hedging, while offering financial participants access to a critical industrial commodity.
The growth of Micro futures contracts has supported retail participation in exchange-traded futures markets. These smaller contracts lower capital requirements while maintaining transparency and liquidity. The success of Micro Gold (MGC) and Micro Silver (SIL) has paved the way for other metals, including Zinc, to be made more accessible to smaller accounts.
The availability of specific base metals such as zinc, lead, and nickel varies considerably between CFD brokers. While spot gold and silver are widely available, access to other metals like copper is also common, but base metals remain largely confined to institutional venues or specialist brokers.
