CME Group Sees Strong Demand for 24/7 Gold Futures
CME Group's new 24/7 trading format for its Gold futures contract has gotten off to a strong start, with nearly 15,000 contracts traded over the opening weekend. This represents around $60 million in notional value, according to CME Group.
The exchange operator launched this round-the-clock schedule last week, allowing customers to trade regulated gold futures at any time of day or night. Jin Hennig, managing director and global head of metals at CME Group, said that the move 'demonstrates that retail traders were ready and waiting for always-on, regulated and right-sized products to manage their exposure to gold.'
CME Group's metals business has seen significant growth this year, with a record $125 billion in average notional value traded each day across its gold futures. In the first half of 2026, the 1-Ounce Gold futures contract averaged 87,000 contracts per day.
