CME Group Sees Strong Gold Futures Trading on Inaugural Weekend
CME Group reported that nearly 15,000 1-Ounce Gold futures contracts traded during its inaugural weekend of 24/7 trading, representing about $60 million in notional value. This marks a significant milestone for CME Group's metals business, which has seen a surge in activity driven by precious metals.
The company highlighted strong participation from retail traders seeking always-on, regulated gold exposure. Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals at CME Group, said 'Gold is a global safe-haven asset, and global events don't stop on weekends.'
CME Group's metals business averaged 1.3 million contracts traded daily in the first half of 2026, up 55% year-on-year, driven by precious metals activity.
