CME Metals Trading Surges 39% YoY as Yen Futures Soar

CME Group Inc., the parent company of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), has released its weekly recap for metals, yen futures, and FX Link activity. The report highlights a significant increase in trading volume across these markets.

In the first half of 2026, CME's metals business averaged 1.3 million contracts per day, with new 100-ounce silver futures growing towards round-the-clock trading. This represents a substantial increase in metal trading activity for the exchange.

The yen and FX Link markets also saw significant growth, with yen futures averaging 184,000 contracts per day, a 39% year-over-year (YoY) increase. Meanwhile, FX Link averaged 55,000 contracts per day, a 38% YoY rise in activity.

CME has also made changes to its client pricing structure, as disclosed in Special Executive Report No. 9799 on August 11, 2026. Furthermore, the exchange plans to launch index-based NHL futures on September 28, 2026, pending review.
